Make Pooja Room Mandir Using a Carton

Pooja room mandir is found in most modern households. Today people live in small apartment and are not able to build a separate pooja room. Instead they opt for a small pooja room mandir due to scarcity of space.

Pooja room mandir are available in many sizes and can easily fit into any space. But, they are costly and you might not find exactly what you’re looking for. So, how about designing your own pooja room mandir? Here is how you can make a beautiful pooja room mandir at home.

Items you need to make your own pooja room mandir

• Carton
• Extra carton or cardboard
• Adhesive tape
• Thermocol
• Fevicol or glue
• Tissue paper
• Fevicryl acrylic colors
• Varnish
• Cotton string
• Bells and OM

Let’s have a look at the procedure:

Step 1

Take an old carton, and draw mandir design on one of its flap.

Step 2

Cut the carton’s flap to get this pooja room mandir shape. Remove the side flaps and shape the bottom flap.

Step 3

Measure the sides of your mandir. Take an extra carton or cardboard and using the same measurement, cut out these wonderful shapes.

Step 4

Now, paste them on top of the pooja mandir on either side. Use thermocol to support the flaps from behind to keep it stiff and standing. Cut out small windows on both sides of the pooja room mandir.

Step 5

Secure all parts with the help of fevicol and adhesive tape. Now, make a dilute fevicol solution, dip tissue paper and stick it on the pooja mandir. Seal all the open edges using tissue paper. Cover the side, top and front part of the pooja mandir and leave it to dry.

Step 6

Once it has dried up completely, paint it with black color. Leave it to dry.

Step 7

Apply a thin layer of fevicryl acrylic copper color to the mandir and let it dry. Use a thick cotton string to design an OM in the center of your pooja mandap. Color it with copper color.

Step 8

Add a thick cardboard at the bottom of your mandir for support. This will stop the mandir from falling over and keep it steady.

Step 9

Take the cotton string and paste it on the edges of your pooja mandir. Color it with black and copper to increase its aesthetic appeal.

Step 10

Insert an extra cardboard to create a smooth backdrop for your mandir, paste tissues and paint it the same way. Tissues give the mandir its unique texture.

Step 11

Once, the paint has dried out, apply a last coat of varnish on your mandir. Let it dry, and then hang bells on it.

Step 12 

Place your pooja mandir on top of a table, platform or a shelf. You can make two loops and hang it on the wall too. Before placing the mandir, keep pooja room vastu in mind. Finally, keep your deities in the pooja mandir and do your pooja with utter devotion.

Step by Step Tutorial – How to Make Ganesh Idol at Home  

How to make Ganesh idol at home? Well, it’s not that tough. We can easily make beautiful Ganesh idols with clay or flour by going through these simple steps.

Indians celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with great fervor and delight. Most of them bring Ganpati to their home. The Ganpati decoration at home begins well in advance. Traditionally made idols pose threat to the environment. They cause lots of pollution and contaminate our water bodies. This year use eco-friendly materials to make Ganpati idol and non-toxic colors for decorating it.

Well, here are some simple steps on how to make Ganesh idol at home with clay or flour. You can use this same method to make Vinayaka idols out of mud, paper or paper mache.

Simple Steps to make Eco-friendly Ganpati Idol at Home

Step 1 – Take clay and mix water in it to make a nice dough. Divide it into four parts.

Step 2# Take the first part of clay to make the base. Use a couple of toothpick to fix the body of Ganesh idol on it.

Step 3 – Now, add a small part of clay to create Ganpati’s stomach.

Step 4 – Blend the clay properly. Make a nice belly for lord Ganpati.

Step 5 – Carve the rest of the body using your fingers. Use water to if the clay become dry and hard to manage.

Step 6 – Take small portions of clay to create legs for the idol. Give them their proper shape.

Step 7 – Attach the legs to the body. Blend them and see that they stay secured.

Step 8 – Decorate your Ganesh idol. Adorn your idol with necklace. Make intricate designs over it with a toothpick. 

Step 9 – Use clay sculpting tools to make dhoti. If you don’t have one use a spoon or a knife.

Step 10 – In this step, we will add hands to the idol. Roll small portions of clay and attach it to the shoulder.

Step 11- Place a stole on the shoulder of Ganpati. This will help you secure his hands and fix it firmly to the body.

Step 12 – The body of lord Ganpati is ready. But, you still need to work on it a bit more.

Step 13 – Create palm for the idol. Carefully crave the fingers and the thumb on it. 

Step 14 – Fix the palms in place. Place a round ball on the left palm as if he is holding a ladoo. 

Step 15 – Take a small ball of clay to make Ganpati’s head. Using a toothpick attach it to the body.

Step 16 – Add final touches to Ganpati idol. Add extra clay on the back and seal the gaps. Blend it and to make the back smooth.

Step 17 – Now, it’s time to design your Ganpati’s trunk. I love the cute spiral trunk. 

Step 18 – Attach the trunk on the head and blend the clay properly. Blending is the key to creating a flawless Ganpati idol. 

Step 19 – Take some clay and flatten it to make ears for the idol.

Step 20 – Fix the ears in place. Add a bit of clay at the back to secure it. Use a toothpick to do the detailing on the ears. 

Step 21 – Place a turban on Ganpati Bappa’s head. Attach tusks on either side of the trunk.

Step 22- Give finishing touches to the idol by adding jewelry on to its hands and feet.

Step 23 – Your Ganesh idol is ready. Paint it with non-toxic color and decorate it with bio-degradable material.

Check out these easy steps to make eco friendly Ganpati idol at home. You can use a variety of material to make environmental friendly idol of lord Ganesh. Go for mud, shadu clay, flour, paper or paper mache. People have woken up to this cause and are coming up with innovative ideas. These materials are bio-degradable and non-toxic. They don’t harm the water bodies in which they are immersed.

1. Use natural clay or the ones available in the market

2. Add water and make dough. Knead well to get a smooth texture. 

3. Divide them into six parts. One for the body, one for the head, two for legs and two for making the hands of the idol.

4. Start with the body; make an oval shape out of the clay and place it on the table. Make two carrot shapes and attach it to form the feet of Ganpati.

5. Take the clay we had kept for hands. Make arms and carve the palms.

6. Attach the hands to the body using toothpick.

7. Add clay to make the shoulders.

8. Use a bit of water to blend things up and get a smooth design.

9. Add clay at the back to make it strong.

10. Use clay to give shape to the chest of the idol. 

11. Secure the limbs by adding more toothpicks.

12. Lets start with the head. Roll the clay and create the trunk.

13. Use your fingers to make eyes. 

14. Now, start working on the ears.

15. Looks very much like our Ganpati Bappa! 

16. Twist or roll the trunk in desired manner. 

17. Add tusks and a toothpick at the bottom.

18. Fix the head on the body of Ganpati. 

19. Ganpati idol is almost ready; you just need to add some finishing touches to it.

20. See to it that the clay is properly blended at the back. 

21. Create dhoti for the deity.

22. Take a small piece of clay and make stole out of it. 

23. Place stole on both side and attach them firmly. 

24. Now, your Ganpati idol is ready. 

25. Dry the idol and paint it with non-toxic color. Decorate it by adding accessories to it.
